BRIGHTON AREA SCHOOLS CHRIS HARBRECHT “I WILL RIGHT NOW” SCHOLARSHIP FUND (MAKE A WISH)
“Every act of KINDNESS grows the spirit and strengthens the soul.”
Living beyond cancer...the statistics are staggering. According to the American Cancer Society, in 2016, 1,685,210 people will be newly diagnosed with cancer. That is 4,620 new cases every day or 3 new cases every single minute.
We all care about someone who has been touched by cancer. Many of us have personal experience with the profound pain and suffering that is brought about by a cancer diagnosis. We want to offer HOPE and HELP to ease that burden.
Chris Harbrecht was the devoted father of three teenagers: Drew, Hailey-Tate and Drake. He was a loving husband to Keri, a long-time teacher at Brighton Area Schools and lifelong Brighton resident. Chris was diagnosed with cancer on December 28, 2015 and passed on February 21, 2016.
Chris was truly loved by all who knew him. He cared deeply for others and managed to use his time and talent to serve his community in numerous and meaningful ways. He coached hockey and soccer over the years. He served as a youth leader, a mentor at his church and an active volunteer with Reaching Higher. He was also highly regarded in his role as a Regional Sales Director at VMWare and was widely known for his positive attitude, and strong code of ethics. Countless people were touched by Chris' encouraging and compassionate example. He is remembered by an infectious smile, kindness of heart, strong leadership abilities, strength of character and perpetual optimism. During his battle with cancer, Chris’ mantra was, “I Will Right Now.” As a way of honoring Chris and his kind and generous spirit, we WILL reach out to help others in need.
We, the BAS Community have established a new scholarship program to assist Brighton Area School students or employees whose immediate family members are battling cancer. Whether it is funds to pay for respite care, a dinner out, transportation assistance, a shopping trip, celebration of me party, etc., we want to help! The Brighton Area Schools and community cares about the physical and emotional health of every individual; we live and breath each other every day. We want to spread our love and show our gratitude. Together, we will make a difference and we will work as a team to positively impact our community, one person at a time.
